In this presentation, Alissa Wassung, Executive Director of the Food is Medicine Coalition (FIMC), spoke about Food is Medicine and why it has more recently come into the spotlight as a way to address food insecurity. Alissa outlined Food is Medicine interventions and told us more about the work of the Food is Medicine Coalition. Examples of how Food is Medicine approaches are being implemented in Northwest Indiana were shared by Jodi Bella and Sandra Noe with Meals on Wheels of Northwest Indiana.

In this webinar, we heard from Ambre Marr, State Legislative Director, and Jason Tomcsi, State Director of Communications, with AARP Indiana. Watch this webinar to learn more about general strategies and tools that can be used to share the experiences of your community members and advocate for change at the local, state, and federal level. Ambre and Jason also discuss the difference between advocacy and lobbying and how AARP Indiana engages volunteers to ensure community member voices are heard across the local, state, and federal levels of the legislative process.

In this webinar, we heard about the Community Voices for Health in Monroe County framework from Liz Grenat, Director of the Community Justice and Mediation Center (CJAM) and Annie Eakin, Community Wellness Coordinator with the Purdue Extension Nutrition Education Program. For context, in April 2020, the CJAM and Bloomington Health Foundation (BHF) were jointly awarded a 30-month grant by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to analyze current practices, identify gaps, and develop a model for community engagement that is equitable and inclusive. The project, Community Voices for Health in Monroe County (CVHMC), aims to reimagine how decisions are made in communities and to transform existing practices into ones that are meaningful, community-wide, and embrace varying perspectives.

Each group explained how their screening processes are structured, how the screening processes are logistically implemented, and how the screenings related to larger community health needs assessments and engagement efforts.

During this webinar, we heard from Miah Michaelsen of the Indiana Arts Commission, Meagan Huber of the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, and Bridget Anderson of Patronicity.
Miah Michaelson discussed health outcome data related to engagement with art, how to engage multi-sector partners (including artists) in a community well-being approach, and programs and grants available through the Indiana Arts Commission.
Meagan Huber and Bridget Anderson talked more about the public-private partnership between the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority and Patronicity. Through this partnership, the CreatINg Places program is implemented across Indiana. Join us to learn more about how placemaking projects have been implemented in urban and rural Indiana communities to address community engagement and well-being.
